The real deal: crisp potato latkes made with potatoes, onions, a little matzo meal, and not much else, ready to heat and serve with a side of homemade apple sauce. They taste like the ones that come out of a deli kitchen, because they do. The 2nd Ave Deli has fried them since Abe Lebewohl opened his East Village counter in 1954, now a James Beard American Classic. Perfect for a Hanukkah spread or any night that calls for comfort.
